  • Ben Shchigel

    Ben Shchigel

    Tutor in Literacy and Numeracy

    Ben has committed to a career working with individuals to improve skills and participation in daily life.

    He is passionate about promoting independence and engagement in learning, with experience in helping neurodiverse children achieve a range of personal and educational goals.

    Ben is currently studying a Masters of Occupational Therapy and has spent the last 3 years working as a support worker and therapy assistant in both 1:1 and group settings.

    Ben also brings experience in coaching young kickboxing students to reach competitive and personal milestones and is dedicated in helping students thrive in all areas.

    Qualifications and clearances:

    Ben has a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics and Marketing and Cert IV in Business.

    Ben has worked at Inside Out Occupational Therapy, Autism Alliance and as an independent support worker.

    Ben has completed the DSF Sounds Write training course.

    Ben has a current working with children card.

    Ben is excited to help students achieve their goals and build their underlying skills while developing an interest in learning.

  • Chantal Fenelon

    Chantal Fenelon

    Tutor in Literacy and Numeracy

    Chantal has dedicated her career to working with children, with a strong foundation in the Montessori philosophy and a belief in nurturing the whole child. With a passion for education, she brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to helping students thrive.

    Chantal is an extremely patient, compassionate, and highly attuned educator. She brings strong, diverse, and finessed skills honed from a seventeen-year career, which has included teaching in Montessori

    Schools in both South Africa and Ireland before coming to Australia - where she has now worked in a Montessori school for the past 11 years.

    Chantal has worked with students of all ages, from varied spiritual, racial and cultural backgrounds. She works with an open, non-judgemental, strength focused, caring and practical approach.

    Qualifications and clearances:

    Chantal has a Montessori Teaching Diploma and a Cert 111 in Education Support

    Chantal currently works at a Montessori school in the Education Support Centre - running literacy intervention and also working with neurodiverse children.

    She has completed DSF’s Sounds Write Training.

    Chantal has a current working with children card.

    Chantal is very excited to be part of your child’s journey in further developing not only their skills, but also their confidence, in a warm and respectful environment.

  • Claire Haselhurst

    Claire Haselhurst

    Literacy Tutor

    Claire is a Primary School Teacher with specialist skills in Literacy Education. She is passionate about the Science of Reading research and is dedicated to using evidence-based programs to support students with learning difficulties. Additionally, Claire is trained in Sounds-Write Phonics Program and works explicitly with students to target and build strong skills in Reading, Writing and Spelling.

    Recently, Claire has been providing 1:1 intervention at Kapinara Primary School and Bubbles Speech Pathology. This, atop a career of education, has provided experience with students of all abilities, including neurodiverse students, with diagnoses of Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Developmental Language Delay and ADHD.

    As well as the latter, Claire has worked at the Telethon Speech and Hearing Centre, working with small groups of students in lower primary, who required targeted intervention. She also spent some time marking the Writing component of NAPLAN, for the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (WA).

    Claire is excited to be joining The Learning Circle in their new space. Her goal is to combine her knowledge, experience and calm approach to provide children with the skills to become proficient and confident readers and writers.

    Qualifications and Training:

    Bachelor of Education (Primary) with a Post-Graduate Certificate in Special Needs @ Notre Dame University.

    Claire is a fully registered Teacher with the TRBWA.

    Claire has completed the Sounds-Write Program training through DSF.

    Claire has a current working with children card.

    Claire is looking forward to building a positive rapport with her students and working with Nicola and the team a t TLC.

  • Prema Arasu

    Prema Arasu

    Tutor in Literacy and Numeracy

    Prema is a local author and educator with over ten years of experience as a literacy and numeracy tutor.

    Prema has a PhD in English from UWA and has taught at all levels from K to tertiary. With a passion for inclusive education, they bring a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to helping students thrive.

    Prema is an enthusiastic, compassionate, attuned and highly experienced educator. They bring eight years of experience working with neurodiverse students at after-school tutoring centres and in homeschooling.

    They are also a published poet with Fremantle Press.

    Prema has worked with students of all ages, from varied spiritual, racial and cultural backgrounds and has a strong commitment to diversity, including gender diversity and neurodiversity. They approach education with an open, non-judgemental, strength focused, caring pedagogy.

    Qualifications and clearances:

    Prema has a Bachelor of English and Cultural Studies (Honors) from UWA, an Master of Letters in Modern and Contemporary Literature and Culture from the University of St Andrews, and a PhD in English and

    Creative Writing from UWA.

    Prema worked at Kip McGrath Education Centres across Perth from 2011 to 2018. They continue to lecture and tutor Creative Writing at UWA on a part-time basis.

    Prema has a current working with children card and is undertaking training in Sounds Write.

    Prema is looking forward to building meaningful connections with students and empowering them with practical and creative skills in their education journey.
